What is logging and tracing?
In computer software, logging, also called tracing, refers to automatically
recording events and data structures to provide an audit trail. Analyzing
the recorded logging data helps software developers and system
administrators identify and solve security problems, software bugs and
user-reported issues.
To enable software logging, developers add logging statements to their code
which provides a means of automatically recording certain information when
the program executes. The process of adding logging statements to software
applications is often referred to as instrumenting.
Modern logging systems provide developers with extensive functionality to
filter, monitor and log advanced information and to take advantage of logging
and tracing even in the most complex applications and distributed systems.
.NET Logging
SmartInspect is the right choice for adding logging support to any .NET desktop application, ASP.NET server project or multi-tier database solution.
