DevX.com SmartInspect Article

Paul Ferrill reviewed SmartInspect for DevX.com and wrote an
article about debugging multi-threaded .NET applications with
it. Some quotes of the article:

"SmartInspect from Gurock Software uses a mixture of
old-fashioned techniques with tight Visual Studio
integration to help ease the pain of debugging
multithreaded applications."

"Saving a few hours over the course of a week with
this product will justify the cost in a short period
of time. An added benefit to this product is the
ability to embed logging capabilities that can be
enabled with a configuration change or by setting
an option on a menu."

asp.netPRO reviews SmartInspect

Mike Riley reviewed SmartInspect Professional for the asp.netPRO
Magazine website. A short quote of the review:

"One of SmartInspect's most helpful features is its ability
to isolate thread analysis. This benefit alone is worth the
price of the product. Any developer who has struggled to
debug an application serving hundreds, perhaps even
thousands, of users simultaneously trying to debug individual
threads with a standard debugger knows how challenging and
tedious such a task would be. Enable SmartInspect's process
flow with AutoView rules and each newly created thread can be
closely monitored throughout the thread's lifespan for any
anomalies."

Tip: Using LogColored to highlight important messages

Like most users, you probably have added some temporary log
calls to your application just to quickly debug a problem once
in a while. After fixing the problem these log calls are then
often removed. To highlight such and other log entries for quick
identification in the SmartInspect Console, you can use the
LogColored method to highlight specific log entries:

In C#:
SiAuto.Main.LogColored(Color.Green, "After object removal");

In Java:
SiAuto.main.logColored(Color.GREEN, "After object removal");

In Delphi:
SiMain.LogColored(clGreen, "After object removal");

These log entries will have a green background in the
SmartInspect Console and you will be able to quickly
distinguish them from regular log entries.
